Since Christmas I have been doing a little fishing here in Grand Cayman. It started out with the new rod and reel that my wife's parents got me for Christmas. I soon found out that fishing here was going to be a lot different than anywhere else I have even fished.
First of all it is almost impossible to fish on the bottom due to all the coral. It catches a hold of your sinker and hook and snags every time.
I snapped my first pole when I got a snag. Yep, snapped it right in half. I was so stunned that I hardly noticed the shards of wood and fiberglass that got lodged into my hand.
Fishing with a bobber is almost useless because of the waves and low visibility.
There are certain spots that the fish bite and you might as well forget about catching anything anywhere else.
At any rate I persevered and finally caught an exceedingly small fish the locals call a "grunt". I was quite proud to have caught it until I learned that it was the absolute lowest of the low of fish. I will continue my endevors though because that's what REAL fishermen do. Wish me luck. If you want to see the pictures of my grunt please check out my Facebook account.

Heroes Day Ceremony
So today is Heroes day in sunny Grand Cayman. We went to Heroes square and got to watch the Awesome Ceremony. The Governor was there as well as the Premier. It was very interesting hearing them speak about Heroes and how we need to go back to the high standards of our ancestors. One particularly interesting thing was when the Premier said that kids shoulden't be wearing their pants around their bottoms instead of their waists, It got the loudest applause of anything else he said. They openly sang church hymns and there was a mass choir that sang (I could have been a part of it except I didn't think I had the time). The National Hero of this year was a Lady who was Part of the Educational system. She looked very old. Watching the parade was also very interesting and amusing. the police band was quite good but I was more impressed with the John Hicks High School Band. They played the 007 theme, Hogans Heroes theme, Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious from Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean theme, and that "Hey now" song by Smash Mouth. All in all it a very unique experience.
